The Cat Insider was created by and for cat lovers. Our mission is to provide cat owners with the tools needed to provide great care and build strong bonds with their cats.
My name is Chase, and I am the founder and chief editor at The Cat Insider. I spend about half of my days trying to reclaim personal space, cleaning up cat hair, and reorganizing my kitchen after the cats provide their take on interior design (they are not great in that department).
I grew up with three dogs and never entertained owning a cat! Fast-forward a few years and getting engaged to a cat lover – my fiancé and I rescued two cats: Morticia (Mo) and Gomez (Go) (if you don’t get those names, google them!).
We had quite a rollercoaster ride early on. We were told Morticia was a girl, Gomez was a boy, and they were siblings. However, we determined Morticia was a boy after they got fixed. But nobody told us that.
We realized this as my fiancé comes from a family of vets and she noticed they had similar areas shaved after their appointment. She called her family, they confirmed Morticia was a boy, and we just scratched our heads wondering how so many people got this wrong. The organization we rescued through, our first vet visit, and the people who fixed our cats – not one of them told us Morticia was actually a boy.
I decided I wanted to learn more about cats, so I didn’t need to rely on others as much. I wanted to do my own thorough research, and work with specialists to ensure my understanding was accurate. Thus, we created The Cat Insider to provide robust, data-informed, and vet-reviewed answers to commonly asked cat questions.
I don’t qualify myself as a vet because I’m not. However, I am a seasoned publisher that is experienced in building elite teams that are legally qualified to give advice for your cat and all its quirky behavior! That’s what I did with The Cat Insider.
All the content we publish on this site has been written or overseen by a qualified vet or vet tech.
I hope we succeed in our mission to provide you with the tools needed to provide great care and build strong bonds with your cat!

Meet The Cat Insider Team
Iulia Mihai, DVM
Dr. Iulia Mihai has been surrounded by animals for her entire life. Her love for animals is what led her to become a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM).
Iulia graduated from the University of Agronomical Sciences and Veterinary Medicine in Bucharest, Romania in 2012. She has a master’s degree in Small Animals and Equines Pathology and a strong affinity for veterinary parasitology, internal medicine, and the laboratory.
She started her Ph.D. in epithelial cancer in dogs and cats in 2013. Iulia has volunteered at the faculty’s clinic and continued to pursue her career in small animal pathology and laboratory.
Currently, she has two cats and five rats. They get along just fine! Her oldest cat, Strudel, was the first cat she owned. Iulia recently rescued another kitten, Felix, and both cats continue to fill Iulia’s days with joy, laughter, and mischievous behavior.
Iulia believes having pets comes with great responsibilities, but the satisfaction is commensurate. Her love for cats was a major reason for joining the Cat Insider team, and she uses her extensive background with cats to ensure our content is accurate and helpful for readers like you!
Kelly
Kelly has had cats as pets since she was a child. Her grandparents were veterinarians with all types of animals in and around their home, and her parents have had cats since before Kelly was born.
Kelly works as a registered nurse most days of the week, but she supports our mission as a freelance writer whenever she has time available!
She has cared for many different pets over the years, but cats have always been her bread and butter.
Her career calls for empathy and compassion to provide the best care for her patients, and she brings that same care to her own cats (aka our cats). She is a strong believer in using scientific research to educate cat owners on how to properly care for their feline friends.
By being around cats for her entire life, Kelly has a keen understanding of how to best care for a cat and she loves sharing those tips with readers like you!
Gomez and Morticia (The Stars of the Show)
Gomez (Go, Gomie the Homie) and Morticia (Mo) are the two cats that inspired The Cat Insider. I should note that some of the below biographies are a stretch of the truth, but mostly accurate.
Gomez studied biscuit making at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, France. After perfecting the craft, and scratching most of his competition, he graduated at the top of his class. Promptly after graduation, he moved into a cardboard box to search for enlightenment. His talents include being handsome and always finishing his food.
Morticia studied Jiu-Jitsu at The Renzo Gracie Academy in New York City. Her favorite book is The Art of War, which she has read over 35 times. She often practices her Jiu-Jitsu on Gomez and allows the house to hear his cries. Her talents include a thirst for blood and an ability to open cabinets and fish out treats when not being supervised.
